The Carlyle House Welcomes a New Neighbor

We are happy to welcome the City of Kettering’s new fire station scheduled to be open in the spring of 2015. Construction will begin in the summer of 2014 on the state of the art fire station directly north of the Carlyle House on Far Hills Ave.

The Carlyle House has been very involved in the exterior design of the fire station. Greg Nelson, partner in the Carlyle House was a member of the design committee along with neighbor Mark Messer, fire dept. staff, city staff and Mayor Don Patterson. “As neighbors we challenged the city to design the fire station to complement the residential qualities of the neighborhood and the Carlyle House.” states Greg Nelson. “We are very pleased that our concerns were addressed with such a high quality outcome.”

The city has agreed to build a 6 foot landscaping berm between our properties and plant mature pine trees to buffer and screen both the noise and activity at the fire station. Additionally we are in discussions about the construction of a pathway in the berm that would directly link the fire station services to the front door of the Carlyle House. The attached renderings reflect a timeless design and a warmth not often seen in a community fire station.

“We are looking forward to the construction of the new fire station.” adds Bryan Nelson, managing partner. “Operationally, we are happy to see what should be the quickest response time in Montgomery County when emergency services are called for and that security means a great deal to us at the Carlyle House.”
